Originally, I was looking for a young male Golden to be pals with my golden girl, Baylee and that I could train to show in obedience competitions. Beau, originally named Maxim, was neither young nor physically fit enough to excel in obedience but the sparkle in his eyes was beyond compare.
When he first came to my home he had no hair, had multiple skin lesions and was hugely overweight at over 90 pounds. He also had weak hips as his previous owners were kind enough to have hip surgeries done on both his hips for hip dysplasia. Now, after living with us for one year, he has a gleaming thick red coat, his skin lesions and calluses have completely healed and he is down to 71 pounds with a cute little hop in his step. Beau has earned his CGC and TDI and is learning the basics of novice obedience.
Most striking of all is his wonderful jolly spirit that warms the heart of all he meets. It doesn't matter that he may never manage the game of obedience competition, the joy in his heart will never be matched.
Sadly, his wonderful warm heart may be his weakest spot as he was recently diagnosed with dilitated cardiomyopathy. Beau's days may be limited due to the nature of this disease but his spirit will linger way beyond his years. He is a great complement to Baylee's serious nature and has given me a gift greater than gold.
Thank-you GRCGLA rescue for this most precious gem!
