Harley
7 yrs old, male

Meet Harley, our 7 year old “puppy”. He has had a rough situation, neglected and unloved his entire life, living outside 24/7. His owner finally relinquished him for a better opportunity. But he has that Golden spirit and holds no ill will towards humans. In fact he greets strangers with friendliness and enthusiasm. He deserves a loving home to thrive like a typical Golden.
The outdoor living was not gentle on Harley’s skin. He will be neutered in about a week, as soon as he gets a bath and we clear up some skin issues. He walks nicely without pulling and appears to have medium/low energy. Maybe that is due to some extra weight he is carrying around. He currently weighs 85 pounds, but should be 75. With a couple of daily walks around the block, and better food with measured quantities, the weight should drop off. We are told that he is a little submissive with other dogs, and is curious about cats, but won’t chase. We will observe and learn more.
So why do we call Harley a “puppy”? Because he is still discovering how to be a normal polite dog. He may gently mouth your wrist or his leash in play, carry around blankets, or need a little guidance learning house rules and manners----simply because he’s never lived with a family inside a home before. He ignores squeaky toys, but loves a good rope toy. Please play tug! What he does have is an affectionate, people loving heart that just needs guidance and love. He will plop down on his side and invite belly rubs. When you stop, he will sit by your side and warm your leg.
Harley can be an only dog, or probably join a mellow, non-bullying resident dog. But please be home most of the time. He has proven he can live without human contact, but he deserves companionship for his next phase of life. Bring on the love! Can you provide a foster stay or permanent home? Harley would appreciate a soft bed and a family that will give him the attention he deserves.
