Hi! My name is Sophia and I am SOOOOO lucky to be in the loving and caring hands of GRCGLA Rescue.

You see, I am a very special 1-year-old Golden mix who weighs 52 pounds. There is absolutely nothing wrong with me, but I was born with my paws a little different. I am missing a few bones in my toes, which made my feet a little wonky, but don't worry! GRCGLA Rescue is getting everything taken care of, and once the incredible doctors finish their magic, I will be ready for adoption.

This is the best news ever because I spent my whole life living in pain in a dirt yard with my sister, Patches. Those days are long gone. Not only did the wonderful volunteers at GRCGLA Rescue save me, but they also saved my sister and best friend because they didn't want her left all by herself. We have always had each other, and we are so happy to be safe together while we wait for our forever family.

Moving forward, I will need a home that understands I may never walk perfectly normally and probably won't be training for marathons. But please don't underestimate me! I got around surprisingly well before surgery, and I am going to get around even better once I finish healing. In fact, you may hardly notice the little extra giddy-up in my walk. I have already had surgery on my front paws, and once those are fully healed, the kind doctor will fix my back paws. Thankfully, those are not nearly as complicated, so my recovery should be much easier.

What I really want is to be treated just like any other dog. I want to go to training classes with my new family and learn what it feels like to be a cherished indoor family member. A soft bed, a pat on the head, toys of my very own, and being included in family adventures would make me the happiest girl in the world.

The nice volunteers and caring veterinary staff say I have a sweet and gentle spirit. I love people, enjoy making new friends, and have an amazing attitude despite everything I have been through. Most importantly, I absolutely adore my sister Patches. We have been together our entire lives and are truly bonded. She gives me confidence, I make her feel safe, and together we are the perfect pair.

We know finding a family willing to open their hearts and home to two dogs may take a little longer, but we also know that the right family is out there. The family who sees beyond my special paws and recognizes that what really matters is my enormous heart.

Update 7-7-26: These two girls continue to steal hearts everywhere they go, and we can't say enough good things about them—they truly are GREAT dogs! 

Patches is pure joy wrapped in “golden" fur. She greets everyone with the happiest twirls and spins, making it impossible not to smile. While her best friend Sophia continues to heal, Patches has been enjoying long walks, either on her own or with other canine companions. She's also having the time of her life at Doggie Disneyland, where she gets to romp and play in the big dog group with lots of new friends. Watching her run, play, and spread happiness wherever she goes has been such a gift.

Meanwhile, Sophia has perfected the art of being the ultimate cuddle bug. In fact, we're pretty sure she thinks she's a cat! She absolutely loves climbing right into a volunteer's lap, leaning in for ear scratches, belly rubs, and all the affection you can possibly give. And if you dare stop petting her, she'll look up at you with those gorgeous, soulful eyes as if to say, "Excuse me...I wasn't finished yet!" It's impossible to resist. Sophia is the sweetest, softest little mush who simply wants to be close to her people and soak up every bit of love and attention.

These girls complement each other perfectly—Patches brings the playful energy, while Sophia brings the snuggles. Together, they make an incredible team, and we know there is a very lucky family out there who will fall in love with both of them just as we have.

7-14-26: An Exciting Update on Sophia! 

We have wonderful news about our sweet girl, Sophia! Her surgery on her front paws has been a huge success, and they are nearly healed. 

She is getting around so much better, and we're in the process of having custom boots made for her front paws to give her even more support. Best of all, she is no longer in the excruciating pain she once experienced with every step. We are so close to the day when her bandages will finally come off for good!

As she's healed, Sophia's personality has absolutely blossomed. She is one of the gentlest, sweetest, most loving dogs you'll ever meet. She's a little bit like a cat—she simply wants to curl up in your lap, soak up belly rubs, and be close to her people.

Watching this beautiful girl go from pain to joy has been incredibly rewarding, and we love her to pieces. We can't wait to see her continue to thrive as she gets closer to finding the forever home she so deserves.
